What is a hotel spa in Güneşli, and who can use it?
A hotel spa is the spa section inside a hotel that, as well as serving hotel guests, is usually open to visitors from outside. Beatus Spa's location at The G Hotels Istanbul works this way: you don't have to stay at the hotel, and you can come to the spa directly with an appointment.
The Beatus Spa location inside The G Hotels Istanbul, in the Güneşli neighbourhood of Bağcılar, is a spa and massage centre run by Beatus Spa. Remembering that Beatus runs the spa, not the hotel, and that the hotel's and the spa's facilities are separate, helps you ask the right question in the right place. For example, the outdoor pool belongs to the hotel; the indoor pool, hammam, sauna, steam room and massage rooms are in the spa.
These are the facilities listed for the location:
- A Turkish bath (one hammam)
- A dry sauna and a steam room
- Private treatment rooms, massage and body care
- A modern indoor pool used all year round
- A fitness centre with equipment for cardio, strength and flexibility work
A bathrobe, slippers, a towel and disposable underwear are provided at the location, and English-speaking staff are available. For opening hours, see the page for our spa at The G Hotels in Güneşli. We don't put the hours in this article, because the location page is the single source for them.
Is the indoor pool in Güneşli open in winter too?
Yes. The modern indoor pool at The G Hotels Istanbul location is used all year round. Because any pool can close for maintenance or cleaning, it's still good practice to ask the location before you go.
According to the pool waters page of the Ministry of Health's General Directorate of Public Health, indoor pools must be heated in the winter months, and the water of adult pools is drained and cleaned at least once a year. The same page says users are expected to shower and disinfect their feet before entering the pool. An indoor pool, then, is designed to be used whatever the season; maintenance schedules still vary from facility to facility.
As for the outdoor pool: the outdoor pool at The G Hotels Istanbul is a hotel facility. During which period it can be used, and by whom, is the hotel's decision; we give no information on this in the article. For general rules on swimwear, caps and showers, see our hotel pool etiquette guide; our pool page summarises the pools at Beatus locations: pools and swimming.
How do you choose between the hammam, dry sauna and steam room?
It depends on the heat and humidity you want and the time you have: a dry sauna is dry and very hot, a steam room is humid and cooler, and a Turkish bath is a washing ritual with water. If you'd like to use all three on the same day, go in short rounds with a cool-water break in between.
For a detailed comparison of the three, see our sauna vs steam room vs hammam guide. Here is a short version adapted to the Güneşli location:
- Dry sauna: Short sessions in dry heat in a wood-lined room. Harvard Health Publishing advises not staying beyond 15 to 20 minutes in a session.
- Steam room: A humid, misty environment, used with shorter, more frequent breaks.
- Turkish bath: A washing tradition known for its göbek taşı (heated central marble slab), basin and scrub-and-foam ritual.
The Turkish bath is laid out in sections in traditional architecture. An inventory record on the Ministry of Culture and Tourism's Culture Portal describes the traditional Ottoman hammam plan as having cold, warm and hot sections. At the centre of the hot section is the göbek taşı, with small private rooms (halvet) around it, and the furnace (külhan) that heats the water sits at the back. A hammam presented by the Izmir Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism is described in the order of changing room, warm room and hot room, with the göbek taşı in the hot room. A modern hotel hammam recreates only part of this plan, but the aim is the same: to warm up, to wash and to rest.
On the Beatus menu, hammam rituals come in three steps: the Pasha Hammam (40 minutes), the Scheherazade Hammam (55) and the Sultan Hammam (80). Ask at booking which of them is offered at The G Hotels location. Because there is a single hammam at the location, you should ask when you book how it is used, meaning at which hours women and men use it; that arrangement isn't described in this article.
Our Turkish bath page is useful for the rituals and their order. If you have a health condition or are sensitive to heat, check with your doctor before using the hammam, sauna or steam room.
How do you get to Güneşli, and where does the area's name come from?
Güneşli is a neighbourhood of the Bağcılar district on Istanbul's European side, and the M1B metro line serves Bağcılar. The hotel's address is in the Bağlar neighbourhood. We don't give a distance or walking time from the hotel to any station in this article, because we have no verified measurement. Getting a route from a map app is the most reliable way.
A few sourced facts for local context:
- The story of the name: According to Bağcılar Municipality, Güneşli did not begin as a village but as the Papasköy farm. The area was known for a natural spring on the Aypah branch of the Süleymaniye Water Channel (known locally as the "Nine-Spouted Holy Spring"). In 1939 it took its present name, Güneşli.
- District: Bağcılar became a district on 3 June 1992. According to the municipality's news item, the district's population was recorded as 737,206 in the Turkish Statistical Institute's 2020 address-based population results.
- Metro: According to Metro Istanbul's M1B Yenikapı–Kirazlı line page, the line has 13 stations; the Bağcılar Meydan and Kirazlı-Bağcılar stations are on it. The Otogar–Kirazlı extension opened on 14 June 2013.
This section isn't a sightseeing route; for things to do in the city in wet weather, see our guide to a rainy day in Istanbul. You can see all our Istanbul locations on our Istanbul spa page.
What should first-timers prepare, and how does the visit go?
Preparation is simple: a swimsuit or swim shorts, your personal care products and an unhurried block of time are enough. A bathrobe, slippers, a towel and disposable underwear are provided at the location. The seven steps below show how a day at The G Hotels location might run.
- Booking: Call the location or write on WhatsApp using the call card at the top of the page. For a weekend, it's good practice to write early.
- Arrival: The International SPA Association (ISPA) suggests arriving about 30 minutes before a spa appointment; this time is for check-in and settling in.
- Getting ready: Take your bathrobe and slippers, and leave jewellery and your phone in the locker. ISPA suggests leaving phones in the locker to keep the spa area quiet.
- Shower: A short shower before the pool, hammam and sauna is a rule at every facility.
- Warming up: The steam room or the dry sauna first; drink cool water between sessions.
- Hammam or indoor pool: If you like, take a calm lap in the indoor pool, or plan the hammam ritual.
- Massage and rest: Leave the massage until last; get dressed without hurrying afterwards and drink water. ISPA suggests allowing 5 to 10 minutes to get dressed after a massage.
During the treatment, don't hesitate to tell your massage specialist how much pressure you like, or what you'd like about temperature or music; ISPA also stresses that talking during a session is optional and that silence is a fine choice. Whether you can choose your massage specialist's gender varies from location to location, so ask when you book.
What are the massage and body care options?
On the Beatus menu, massages are grouped by pressure level and technique: the Relaxing Massage (40 minutes) has a slow rhythm and light pressure, the Deep Tissue Massage (55) uses firm pressure, and the Beatus Signature Massage (55 or 90) balances firm and gentle techniques. Ask the location which of them are offered at The G Hotels.
For a structured choice, you can look at these:
- For a short break: The Targeted Massage (30 minutes) focuses on one area.
- If you like light pressure: The Relaxing Massage (40 minutes), at a slow rhythm with aromatic oils.
- If you like firm pressure: The Deep Tissue Massage (55 minutes).
- For a longer session: The Beatus Signature Massage (90 minutes).
- Body care: The menu also includes care steps such as the Seaweed Body Treatment (55 minutes).
Every massage description is an account of an experience; none promises a result. To work out which massage suits you, see our guide to types of massage, and for what to look for in a good massage spa, our guide on how to choose a massage spa. The full menu is on our massage page.
Can you use the fitness centre and the spa on the same day?
Yes. At The G Hotels location the fitness centre and the spa are in the same facility, so after a workout you can finish the day with a shower, a short sauna or hammam and a massage. The general etiquette is to cool down and drink water first.
The fitness centre has equipment for cardio, strength and flexibility work, and our trainers work with you. How use is arranged, meaning whether by day pass or by membership, is not stated in this article; ask the location. When you move into a hot room after training, remember Harvard Health's advice: cool down gradually rather than suddenly, and drink cool water after your sessions. For a training-day plan and a weekly routine, you can read our guide to a gym with a pool in Bağcılar, which describes our Mahmutbey location.
What's the difference between The G Hotels, Wanda Vista and Euro Park?
