How do you get a massage in a hotel in Maltepe?
To have a massage at the hotel, book an appointment and arrive at the spa entrance at your booked time. You don't need to stay at the hotel. Beatus Spa's Maltepe location is inside Burgu Arjaan by Rotana.
If you've never used a hotel spa, the process usually goes like this. Our first-time hotel spa guide covers the same ground in general terms; the steps below are adapted to the Maltepe location.
- Choose. Think about which massage you want and for how long. If you're not sure, ask the spa when you book.
- Book. Call or message the spa on WhatsApp with your preferred day and time. The number on the call card is for the Burgu Arjaan by Rotana location.
- Arrive. Come 10 to 15 minutes before your session.
- Get ready. Bathrobe, slippers, towel and single-use underwear are provided, so you don't need to bring anything.
- Talk it through. If there is anything about your health you want your massage specialist to know, say so at the start of the session, along with your pressure preference.
- Massage. If your preference for pressure, warmth or conversation changes during the session, just say so.
- Rest. Don't rush out afterwards. Give yourself a few minutes, drink some water, and then carry on with your day.
The International SPA Association (ISPA) publishes a guide for spa-goers that suggests arriving about 30 minutes before your appointment, speaking up straight away if the touch is too firm or too light, and telling the spa professional about any injury or physical condition. When you make your own plan, leave time for check-in and changing. If you'll be arriving close to your appointment time, mention it when you book.
How do you choose between massage types?
Three questions help: how much time do you have, how much pressure do you like, and what kind of experience do you want from the session? Here is how the Beatus menu answers them.
For a light, slow session, the Relaxing Massage (40 min) moves at a slow rhythm with light pressure. For a balanced session, the Beatus Signature Massage (55 or 90 min) combines firm and gentle techniques. If you like strong pressure, the Deep Tissue Massage (55 min) concentrates on areas of tension. If you only want to focus on one area, the Targeted Massage (30 min) lets you pick the back, neck, arms or legs.
The "world massages" section of the menu comes from other traditions. Thai Massage (55 or 80 min) is done on a floor mat with pressure and stretching movements. UNESCO inscribed Nuad Thai, traditional Thai massage, on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2019, and the listing notes that practitioners work with their hands, elbows, knees and feet. For more detail, see what is Thai massage. Shiatsu (55 min) is a Japanese finger-pressure technique, also done on a floor mat. Lomi Lomi Nui (80 min) uses long, flowing Hawaiian strokes with the forearms and elbows.
For a description of different massage styles, start with our types of massage guide; for the full menu, see our massage page. Please confirm which massages are offered at the Burgu location when you book, as the menu can vary from one location to another.
If you choose strong pressure, adjust it with your massage specialist as the session goes on, and if you have a health condition, check with your doctor first.
For Thai massage, the clothing is provided at the spa, so you don't need to bring sportswear. For more on this, see what to wear for a massage.
How do you use the hammam, sauna and steam room around a massage?
This location has a Turkish bath, a sauna and a steam room. You can combine all of them with a massage on the same day, and the order is a matter of preference, not a rule. There is a single hammam here; ask the spa when you book how women and men use it.
The three spaces differ simply: a sauna is dry heat, a steam room is moist heat, and a hammam is a traditional washing ritual with warm marble, water and soap. Our sauna vs steam room vs hammam guide compares the three.
There are two common orders. The first is a short warm-up before the massage: fifteen to twenty minutes in the hammam or steam room, then the massage. This treats the heat as a gentle introduction. The second is to rest in the hammam after the massage, which suits people who like to wash off the oil with soap foam. The Beatus Jet Lag Package lasts 120 minutes and consists of 40 minutes of hammam, 40 minutes of classic massage and a short facial, so the menu itself follows the hammam-then-massage order. For general information on the hammam, see our Turkish bath page.
The layout of a hammam has been similar for centuries. The TDV Encyclopaedia of Islam (TDV İslâm Ansiklopedisi) describes the classical Ottoman hammam as having a changing room, a warm room and a hot room, with a heated central marble platform (göbek taşı) in the middle of the hot room. A Ministry of Culture and Tourism study of hammam traditions adds that the marble basin set against the wall in the hot room is called a kurna, where a person sweats and is scrubbed. The Culture Portal's page on Ankara's hammam culture also reminds us that a hammam was never only a place to get clean, but a social space for conversation. A hotel hammam simplifies the plan; the order of warming up, washing and resting stays the same.
Know your own limits with heat. If you're pregnant, have a health condition or are sensitive to heat, check with your doctor first and tell your specialist at the start of the session. Step out of the hot area the moment you don't feel well.
What should you bring to the spa, and what is provided?
At the Maltepe location, a bathrobe, slippers, towel and single-use underwear are provided, so you don't need to bring anything. You're welcome to bring your own personal care products.
A few small details make things easier:
- Jewellery and accessories: ISPA suggests spa-goers remove jewellery and hats or leave them at home. The same habit helps here.
- Phone: according to ISPA, mobile phones and loud conversation are not appropriate in a spa environment. Put your phone on silent.
- Water: drink plenty of water after your session. ISPA also recommends drinking water after a massage.
- Food: avoiding a heavy meal before your session is a good habit for comfort.
- Time: if you plan to combine the hammam, sauna and massage, work out the total time in advance. Check the opening hours on the Burgu Arjaan location page.
Can you choose the gender of your massage specialist?
Preferences for the massage specialist vary from one location to another. For Burgu Arjaan by Rotana, the most reliable way is to call when you book and ask.
For a clear answer, talking to the spa by phone is more dependable than guessing. ISPA likewise advises spa-goers to ask in advance whether they can request a male or female practitioner. So state your preference clearly when you book.
English-speaking staff are available at this location, so international guests can get help in English when they book.
How can you plan the gym and the spa on the same day?
The Burgu location also has a gym, so you can set aside time for both in one visit. It helps to settle the length of each in advance.
A practical approach: allow a limited time for the gym first, then tie your massage or hammam to an appointment. If you plan to go into the heat areas after exercise, take your time and base it on how you feel. If you have a health condition or are sensitive to heat, check with your doctor first. Ask the spa about the gym's rules and hours. For general information, see our gym page.
How do you plan time blocks for after work, weekends and days off?
The easiest way is to build the plan around the time you have. The durations below come from the Beatus menu. Confirm at booking which rituals are offered at the location and when.
| Time you have | Options to consider |
|---|---|
| About 40 minutes | Relaxing Massage (40 min) or Pasha Hammam (40 min) |
| About 1 hour | Beatus Signature Massage, Deep Tissue Massage, Shiatsu or Thai Massage (55 min) |
| About 1.5 hours | Thai Massage (80 min), Lomi Lomi Nui (80 min), Sultan Hammam (80 min) or Beatus Signature Massage (90 min) |
| 2 hours | Jet Lag Package (120 min): 40 min hammam, 40 min classic massage and a short facial |
After work, a short session is usually enough: a 40 or 55-minute massage at the end of the day works as a pause before you head home. On weekends and days off, a longer plan that combines the hammam, sauna and massage is more comfortable, and booking ahead makes it easier.
How do you get to Maltepe and plan around the Asian side?
Maltepe is a station on Metro Istanbul's M4 Kadıköy–Sabiha Gökçen Airport line, which runs from Kadıköy to Sabiha Gökçen Airport. The distance or walking time between the hotel and the station has not been confirmed, so this guide doesn't give one.
According to Metro Istanbul's line page, the M4 is 33.5 kilometres long with 23 stations, and its operating hours are listed as 06:00 to 00:00. The same page shows that you can change to the T3 tram and sea transport at Kadıköy, to Marmaray at Ayrılık Çeşmesi and to the M8 line at Kozyatağı. So someone coming from the European side can take Marmaray to Ayrılık Çeşmesi and then the M4 to Maltepe station. Check Metro Istanbul for current service.
If you're driving, ask the hotel or the spa about parking. This guide doesn't cover it.
How does the Burgu location differ from the other Istanbul locations?
Burgu Arjaan by Rotana is the Beatus location on Istanbul's Asian side. It has a single hammam, with no separate section for women and men.
This table shows the confirmed facilities of three Istanbul locations side by side:
| Burgu Arjaan by Rotana | Ramada Plaza City Center | Euro Park Otel | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Area | Maltepe, Asian side | Şişli, European side | Esenyurt, European side |
| Hammam | Single hammam | Separate for women and men | Separate for women and men |
| Sauna and steam room | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Gym | Yes | See the location page | Not listed |
"Not listed" means the facility doesn't appear in that location's details; it doesn't mean it doesn't exist. If you live or work on the Asian side and want massage, hammam, sauna, steam room and a gym in one place, the Burgu location fits that need. If you're looking for separate hammams for women and men, look at the other locations. For the others, see our Istanbul spa page.
